Poster Board and Cloth skirts

By In ZANY On October 23, 2014

“They are funny. They don’t hurt to put on. They are in style. They are Poster Board Skirts!” says one of the designers of these fanciful garments. I find it interesting that she phrased her comments for this blog to sound like an advertisement. When they have the opportunity, children play at everything, including advertising.

Poster Board Skirts! I’d never have thought to

make that a project, but I soon had to help them figure out how to reach their goals. I hesitated, “How would you sit down in a Poster Board Skirt?” The answer came easily to the. “We just won’t.” One girl made it to the end of class, not sitting down. The other was called by nature, and having to remove the skirt, didn’t put it back on.

Critics suggest that Poster Board Skirts have no value and even waste materials. I’d suggest that the two of them learned a lot. They now know more about:

  1. How to work together with other people. There are those who believe that real teamwork can only be learned through the competition in sports. I know that having a mutual goal and then creating something together, builds teamwork skills.
  2. Using tools and materials
  3. And imagining and testing for solutions to achieve their goals.

In her private class the girl on the left created the background for the image above using Photoshop, and then, because she was interested she watched me do its animation.
